Natalie meets Ravi

by | Mar 26, 2021 | Soziales, NETWAYS, Team

This entry is part 2 of 20 in the series Natalie meets...

NETWAYS and Icinga are multi-cultural companies with almost 80 employees and over a dozen different nationalities. We’re so proud of our diverse team! With being multi-cultural comes being multi-lingual, so besides German, we’re also comfortable communicating in English.

When it comes to me, I’m excited to hold my first interview in English – and today, the spotlight is on Ravi, an Icinga developer!

Hello Ravi, thanks for participating! Let’s get to know you a little better today! 🙂 In which department do you work?

Hello Natalie, I appreciate and thank you for taking time to interview me. I am working as a developer for Icinga.

Thanks to you, too! 🙂 How does a typical workday look like for you as a developer?

My typical work day starts with a coffee and then looking at my tasks from the previous day – if there’s still something to do or pending, I continue working on it. Other than that, the remaining hours will mostly be invested on working on a newly assigned GitHub issue

What’s the most exciting part of your job? And is there anything about developing/your job that you could easily leave out, if you could?

The most exciting part of my job is that I am learning a lot about developing every day. I am enjoying that I am still continuing to learn. I do not think that there is anything I could leave about my job.

What are your personal goals?

My personal goals are travelling many places (which is currently on a hold because of COVID), increase my German speaking skills, and stay fit and healthy.

Which country are you from and for how many years have you been living in Germany?

I am from India, and I have been living in Germany for almost 4.5 years now.

What did you study and how did you find your way to NETWAYS / Icinga?

I have studied Masters in Communications and Multimedia Engineering. My way to Icinga is kind of random: after my graduation, I was on a job hunt and met Eric at the Nuremberg Job Messe, where we got to talk about the company. He sparked my interest in the company, so I handed him my CV out. Later that week, I got an invite for an interview, which resulted in me making my way into the company.

Are you mostly working from home or at the office nowadays? Could we see a picture of your work desk?

I am mostly working from the office nowadays. It would be my pleasure to show you my work desk! Here it is:

Cool, thanks! Your desk looks so neat! What is the best developer joke you have ever heard? 😀

There are many developer jokes, which are really good, but the one I like most is the one mentioned below:

“When I wrote this code, only God and I understood what I did. Now only God knows.”

This joke always reminds me to make the code “human-readable”.

Last but not least: back when you started here, what were the reasons for you to begin working at Icinga?

I always wanted to start my career in a company, where I could grow professionally. During my interview with Eric and Bernd I was convinced that this is the right place to do so! Hence, I wanted to begin working here – and to this day, I am still glad that I did!

Thank you for taking the time for the interview! Have a nice day!

If you want to follow Ravi’s footsteps and start your career with us, check out our open positions at NETWAYS or career oppportunities at Icinga! If there is nothing suitable for you, feel free to send over an initiative application and we’ll see what we can do! We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
