Weekly Snap: Planning Poker, Plugin Problems & PuppetConf

24 – 28 September was another full week featuring Nagios plugins, Planning Poker, Chrome and three conferences.
In typical Monday tradition, Eva counted 23 days to the OSMC 2012 – this time with Jean Gabes’ presentation on Shinken.
Following on the monitoring theme, Dirk looked at the Nagios plugin development guidelines and the typical mistakes made when writing plugins.
Ronny then explained how to make the most of Chrome’s integrated Windows login while Alexander played Planning Poker.
On the conference circuit, Thomas offered his impressions from PuppetConf 2012 in San Francisco and Bernd shared a thank you note from the Debian Conference 2012 in Nicaragua we sponsored from afar.
Finally, Birger made his final preparations for his sabbatical in Sydney.

Oktober in Sydney ankommen. Der Flug mit Qantas ist gebucht und ich freue mich riesig. Hinterher kann ich beurteilen ob es sich im A380 besser fliegt als in einer 747.

Weekly Snap: Heat Relief for Notebooks & Offices plus Plugin Tips

20 – 24 August offered relief for the office and the notebook in the summer heat, as well as some advice from Icinga users and plugin writers.
Eva began the week by counting 58 days down to the OSMC with Holger Daasch’s presentation on “Icinga Monitoring at Deutsche Welle”.
Following on the Icinga theme, Markus gave his verdict on how not to write an Icinga plugin and Birger updated us on his sabbatical paper work for an Australian work visa.
As temperatures soared, Alexander researched ways to keep notebooks cool while Achim took refuge in federal regulations on occupational health and safety for days above 26°c … and some office-sponsored ice cream.

Weekly Snap: Python Floats, NSClient++ tips & Mac Cheat Sheets

6 – 10 August introduced Mac cheats, Python and NSClient++ tips, and a presentation from the last OSMC.
Eva continued with her countdown (72 days) to the OSMC 2012, this time with Sebastian Harl’s presentation “Collectd in the Big Wide World – Connecting Data Collectors to Monitoring Solutions”.
Stefan then discovered the Mac OS X cheat sheet app and keyboard view as Eric explained float division and complex numbers in Python.
Finally, Phillip added Part 9 on registry to his NSClient++ series while Birger reported from his sabbatical, enjoying the summer in Rostock while working remotely with his Sydney colleagues.

Weekly Snap: Require.JS, Managing SSH Connections & Protocol Handlers in Firefox

2 – 6 July featured the OSMC, Birger’s sabbatical and tips for developers and systems administrators.
Achim gave us his tips for managing SSH connections manually and Jannis recommended Require.JS as an efficient solution for organising code in JavaScript.
Dirk then showed how to integrate protocol handlers into Firefox, while Birger shared his first thoughts on his sabbatical and how he found Bulletproof Networks, his employer Down Under.
Eva counted 107 days down to the OSMC with Thomas Gelf’s presentation on “Monitoring at Large – the World is not Enough” and reflected on the whirlwind of emails, ticket reservations and preparations for the upcoming Puppet Camp and OSMC. She also encouraged OSMC guests to bring a companion along.
