Weekly Snap: PuppetConf Photos, Shell File Transfers & SQL Triggers

weekly snap19 – 23 August shared Shell and SQL tips, and impressions from the OSMC past, PuppetConf of the present and OpenNebula Conf to come.
Eva began by counting 67 days to the OSMC 2013 with Team Icinga’s presentation from last year.
She went on to remind interested participants to book their tickets for the OpenNebula Conf on 24 – 26 September and snap up the remaining gold packages for accommodation at the conference hotel.
Marius G then discovered how to transfer files via Shell and Python while Matthias demonstrated the power of SQL triggers.
To close the week, Tobias played his third round of IT buzzword bingo as Bernd reported live from PuppetConf 2013 in San Francisco with his impressions of the first day.

Weekly Snap: Git & Apache, OSMC & PuppetConf 2013

weekly snap12 – 16 August shared tips for Git, Apache and performance graphing as well as a special on PuppetConf 2013 in San Francisco.
Eva started the week by counting 71 days to the OSMC with Eric Lippmann’s presentation on ‘Performance Graphing with inGraph’.
Meanwhile, Bernd got ready for PuppetConf 2013 and shared a code for 20% discount on tickets as Dirk showed how to bypass Apache authentication requirements.
Finally, Marius played with the Git filter-branch and Achim answered the question: “How do I delete old Git branches?

Weekly Snap: CSS & Chrome, Quickstatd & Graphite, Monitoring & CERN

weekly snap5 – 9 August was a brief week of developer and sys admin tips plus a look at monitoring in an organisation with 3000+ servers and a Large Hadron Collider.
Eva began by counting 78 days to the OSMC with Christophe Haen’s presentation on Monitoring at CERN.
Jannis played with Chrome developer tools for CSS and Sebastian ended the week with his discovery of Quickstatd and Graphite for near real-time performance graphs.

Weekly Snap: Icinga at Audi, Netcat & Clang

weekly snap29 Jul – 2 Aug turned over a new month by introducing our Icinga project at Audi, our Graphic Designer and alternative tools for data transfer and compiling.
Eva began by counting 85 days to the OSMC with Jens Michelson’s presentation on “Monitoring by extending the Net-SNMP agent“.
She went on to share a little on our ongoing Icinga and LConf project at carmaker AUDI AG as our our Graphic Designer, Daniela introduced herself and her sticky note keeper.
Lastly, Blerim showed how to speed up data transfer over a network with Netcat and Michael recommended Clang as an alternative compiler to GCC.

Weekly Snap: TKmon for Servers, Puppet & Pacemaker Courses

weekly snap22 – 26 July was packed with training courses on Puppet and Pacemaker, tips for SAHI and Vagrant vboxsf, and a new monitoring software for servers to boot.
Martin presented TKmon, a simplified version of Icinga for Thomas Krenn Servers that automatically notifies Thomas Krenn for support on hardware problems.
Eva counted 92 days to the OSMC with Simon Meggle’s presentation on “End-2-End Monitoring of Web Applications with SAHI”.
She went on to introduce our Puppet training courses – the first officially certified classes in Germany for beginners, advanced users and even developers wishing to extend the configuration management software.
Continuing with courses, Lennart gave us a peek into his teaching plan on building clusters with Pacemaker as Eric shared his quick tip for delivering Javascript files and images using Vagrant vboxsf.
Lastly, Bernd lamented superficial Facebook birthday wishes while Stephanie reported on this year’s B2Run and our 17-man team of joggers.
