Weekly Snap: CMake, Rsnapshot & MyPhoneExplorer

weekly snap4 – 8 November offered new ideas for build systems, backups and smartphone syncing, as well as a Puppet Camp and webinar on the side.
Ronny recommended MyPhoneExplorer to manage and sync SonyEricsson and Android phones on a PC.
Eva followed with a reminder to snap up the last few tickets to Puppet Camp in Munich on 28 November as Christian reminded interested participants to join our webinar on Graphing with Graphite.
To close, Gunnar put the case forward for using CMake as a build system and Thomas offered his tip for quick and dirty backups.

Weekly Snap: Async.js & Impress.js, Rsyslog & OSDC Cfp

weekly snap28 October – 1 November began a new month with a new conference to look forward to and tips for logs and JavaScript.
Just as we were beginning to recover from the OSMC, Eva kick started preparations for the Open Source Data Center Conference with a Call for Papers and early bird specials.
In the meantime, Matthias played with simple, asynchronous queries in JavaScript with Async.js and Achim showed how to build buffers into logs with rsyslog as Christoph discovered impress.js.

Weekly Snap: OSMC 2013 & enTemp

weekly snap21 – 25 October was the week of the OSMC, which brought monitoring highlights and photos aplenty, plus an iOS app for environment sensors on the side.
As soon as Eva finished up her OSMC countdown with Christian Schneemann’s presentation on “Automatic Configuration of Nagios/Icinga with Agordamon”, she launched straight into the first day of the OSMC.
Dirk soon followed with his impressions of the first and second day of the OSMC, and Eva hers of the dinner and drinks in between.
To close the week, Georg took a look at enTemp, an iOS app to view HWgroup environment sensor results.

Weekly Snap: PuppetCamp Munich, Mac Resets & Puppet Course Online

weekly snap7 – 11 October was packed with events – in the lead up to the OSMC and PuppetCamp Munich, we dug into online instruction on Puppet and LConf while sharing a few Apple Mac resets on the side.
With just 15 days to the OSMC, Eva shared Mike Adolph’s presentation on “Monitoring Behavior Driven Infrastructures with Cucumber-Nagios”.
Georg rounded up interested participants for a webinar on the Icinga/Nagios configuration tool, LConf and uploaded the video promptly thereafter.
Markus announced the upcoming PuppetCamp III on 28 November in Munich while Silke unveiled our new online Puppet Fundamentals course in cooperation with the Media Linux Academy.

Weekly Snap: Qcow2, SNMP & MAX!

weekly snap30 September – 4 October started a new month with tips for VM mounting and printer monitoring alongside ideas for communication in web applications and centralized office heating.
Starting the week, Eva counted 23 days to the OSMC 2013 with Ralf Döring’s presentation on “Monitoring at DB Systel” before sharing her memories and photos from the recent OpenNebula Conf 2013.
Following with sys admin tips, Achim mounted qcow2 using libguestfs tools and Markus W showed how to monitor printers via SNMP while Michael forwarded news of the latest Nagios Plugins 1.5 release.
Finally, Jannis considered the various approaches to asynchronous communication in web programs as Georg introduced a new centralized heating regulator to the office.
