Weekly Snap: Puppet External Node Classifier & at Wirecard

by | Jul 4, 2011 | WeeklySnap

27 June – 1 July turned over the month with a Puppet tip and project at Wirecard in Munich.
Sebastian showed us how to use Puppet External Node Classifier to query hosts from an external source such as LDAP and MySQL for node definitions. With a simple modification of two lines in Puppet’s configuration, hosts are no longer sought for in the static site.pp as usual. The script can be written in Ruby or any other language that supports YAML like Perl, C, PHP among others. It also have “0” as the return status, so that Puppet can run the catalogue and the host can be configured accordingly. See his examples in the blog post.
