Last week I was invited to give a talk at Cloud Expo Europe in London.
IT Service Management with Open Source Tools
“Building a infrastructure for modern systems management can be a very expensive project – with commercial software. But Open Source is an alternative, because today there are tools for all important service management processes available. The speech gives an overview about the most mature tools for Incident & Problem Management, Event Management, Operations Management, Service Desk and CMDB.”
But how does this relate to cloud computing?
One of the important questions about ITSM and Cloud Computing is: Why do we still need IT service management. And I think there are two main reasons: First, the cloud does not change WHAT is being delivered, it changes HOW services are being delivered to end users. So it basically is just a new way how services are being sourced. And second, there will always be coexistence between internal IT assets and clouds. Internal systems and cloud applications need to be integrated and that creates a demand for even more IT service management.
