Was genau gehört zu Deinem Aufgabenbereich bei NETWAYS?

Bei NETWAYS bin ich als Systems Engineer für den reibungslosen Betrieb unserer Infrastruktursysteme zuständig.

An welchen Projekten arbeitest Du gerade?

Als neues Mitglied der NETWAYS-Familie bin ich natürlich erst einmal am „Ankommen“. Ich lerne gerade intensiv die internen Prozesse und technischen Eigenheiten kennen, um danach mit vollem Einsatz das Team Infrastructure und somit auch unsere Kunden zu unterstützen. Die Kollegen helfen mir hierbei sehr gut, so dass ich mich ausgezeichnet aufgehoben fühle. Auch das Umgewöhnen aus der Linux-Welt auf meinen aktuellen Arbeitsrechner (MacBook) verlangt nach Aufmerksamkeit (Wo ist gleich wieder das „Pipe“-Symbol?).

Welche größeren oder besonders interessanten Projekte stehen zukünftig an?

Letzte Woche besuchten wir „Neuen“ eine intensive Puppet-Schulung von unserem Kollegen Ufuk Sentürk, die viel von meiner Zeit in  Anspruch genommen hat. Dazu kommen noch die weiteren Einarbeitungstasks, z.B. zu den Themen HA-Netzwerke, CoreOS, Ceph, Hiera und tagesaktuelle Projekte.

Was macht Dir an Deiner Arbeit am meisten Spaß?

Am meisten Spaß macht mir mit Sicherheit, mit einem sehr guten Team zusammen zu arbeiten und das in einem Bereich, den ich lange als Hobby betrachtet habe.

Außerdem sehe ich ich jetzt bisher ganz alltägliche Dinge in einem anderen Licht, nachdem ich hier die Möglichkeit habe, einen Blick hinter die Kulissen zu bekommen.

Die Entwicklungen im IT-Sektor hautnah mitzuerleben und nicht nur als bloßer Beobachter dabei zu sein ist auch ein besonderes Gefühl.

Welche Technologie oder Entwicklung der letzten Jahre ist Deiner Meinung nach die wichtigste, bzw. herausragendste im Bereich Open Source?

Dadurch, dass jedem der Zugriff auf die Software möglich ist, wurde die IT egalitärer. Jeder, der ein gewisses Maß an Interesse mitbringt und natürlich die Fähigkeiten und Hardware besitzt, kann sich damit auseinandersetzen und mitarbeiten. FOSS sind auch keine reinen Nischenprodukte für professionelle IT-Anwender mehr, sondern erreichen jeden durchschnittlichen Anwender.

Wie geht es in Zukunft bei Dir weiter?

Mit dem Ankommen ist es natürlich nicht getan. Im Infrastrukturbereich haben wir selbstverständlich auch nicht nur den Status quo zu erhalten, sondern auch neue Lösungen und Prozesse zu implementieren. Was da genau auf mich zu kommt, ist erstmal offen, – Ich weiß nur, es bleibt spannend!

Tim kommt aus einem kleinen Ort zwischen Nürnberg und Ansbach, an der malerischen B14 gelegen. Er hat in Erlangen Lehramt und in Koblenz Informationsmanagement studiert. Seit Anfang 2016 ist er bei uns tätig. Zuerst im Managed Services Team, dort kümmerte Tim sich um Infrastrukturthemen und den internen Support, um dann 2019 - zusammen mit Marius - Gründungsmitglied der ITSM Abteilung zu werden. In seiner Freizeit engagiert sich Tim in der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr – als Maschinist und Atemschutzgeräteträger -, spielt im Laientheater Bauernschwänke und ist auch handwerklich ein absolutes Allroundtalent. Angefangen von Mauern hochziehen bis hin zur KNX-Verkabelung ist er jederzeit...

Last Tickets for Puppet Camp Berlin available!

So just to remind you: AT THE MOMENT there are tickets of all categories available but that could change literally every minute!
So if you’re clever, you will book your ticket really quick.
Just have a look at this phantastic program with speakers from CERN, Puppet Labs or Server Density if you still need something to convince you.

OSDC 2015: Last tickets available! Or: How to worry like a pro

If you are still waiting to buy your ticket to this year’s OSDC – for whatever reason – you should now start having sleepless OSDC Logo mit weißem Rand-66nights because the strictly limited tickets might sell out any day now.
You can skip the following paragraph, if having a sleepless night is not an option for you.
To give you some pro tips from somebody who really is an expert in insomnia: the perfect preparation for having a sleepless night is to start the day with panic-fueled running in circles thinking about all the catastrophes that will happen, if you don’t get your ticket yet. You should then pick one catastrophic scenario and start to embellish it in the most horrific way possible. Once this scenario has manifested as the only possible way things just have to evolve in the near future, you can spend the rest of the day worrying about all the possible ways people you love could die, because you haven’t bought your ticket in time. Like for example how your company will go bust, because you missed all the up to date information at OSDC that you will definitely need to do your job right and how that will mean, that you and all your colleagues will lose their jobs and then die slowly and painfully of hunger. By afternoon, you should be in a kind of paralysis already, laying in fetal position under your desk. In this stage of self-deprecation, you really can’t do anything wrong anymore – just go with the flow and worry even more until you finally – it should be morning again by then – come to the conclusion, that the world would be a better place, if you had never been born at all.
So this is the best possible preparation for having the worst sleepless night ever. But there are of course alternatives!
Like for example buying your ticket yet. You can, if you like to draw the process out a bit, have a look at the program first and read all about speakers like Nigel Kersten (Puppet Labs), Mitchell Hashimoto (Vagrant) or Kelsey Hightower (CoreOS). You could then toy with the notion of booking one of the workshops or maybe joining the Puppet Camp. But you can of course book your ticket right away too – just to make sure, that we are not sold out until you finally made a decision.

Puppet Camp Berlin: Wir haben ein Programm für euch!

PuppetCamp BlogEs ist so weit! Wir haben ein Programm zu verkünden!
Diesmal werden uns Referenten wie Andrea Giardini von CERN oder Pedro Pessoa von Server Density beim Puppet Camp lauter Dinge erzählen, von denen wir bisher noch gar nicht wussten, dass wir sie dringend wissen wollen. Wollen wir aber!
Außerdem möchten und werden wir mehr über „Rapid Testing Setups for Puppet“ von Felix Frank hören und Sebastian Reitenbach von Black Bridge erklärt uns, wie man in weniger als einem Jahr zum Master of Puppets wird. Nigel Kersten von Puppet Labs höchstselbst, erzählt uns in seiner Keynote, was generell grad so bei Puppet abgeht.
