This time I want to review the Icinga Camp Barcelona which took place at Friday February 27th.
We (Bernd, Eric, Michael and I) started our trip on Thursday with Vueling. I think the cheapest airline I ever flew with, in price and service. 😉 But we arrived save in our Airbnb location and got a tip for our late dinner. Friday morning we started with breakfast and some sightseeing in the city center before we went to the conference location.
Bernd talked about the state of Icinga giving an overview about technical aspects but also about the community which is the main focus on this events I think. So talking about community there were thirty attendees for the camp. Thirty people does not sound very impressive but when you hear people flew there from Denmark, drove ten hours from Malaga or used their holiday for a Spain trip I think it is impressive.
The following talk was Michael about Icinga 2 focusing on configuration changes and what you can do with all the new features like conditional statements and functions.
After that I was lost in translation while Jorge Rancé from Insomer gave his talks in Spanish. His first talk was about why they have chosen Icinga for monitoring including a funny video about a hard drive crash at their provider. The second one was about the weather station monitoring he created for his bird. He and his colleagues were also the guys and girls helping with the local organization.
The last talk of the day was Eric on Icinga Web 2 showing the all new eye candy. I think this talk was the one ending with the most questions and discussions showing the huge interest people have on using something more modern than the Classic UI of Icinga and Nagios. Also you here always the same wishes for Icinga Web 2 Modules so I can create a wish list starting with integration of the most used addons like PNP4Nagios, BPAddon and NagVis next to ticket systems, Logstash and Graphite and of course a configuration tool.
After the talks we moved to a tapas bar for dinner where the food was great and after dinner to a bar for some cocktails. We had to leave after the first round to get some sleep before flying back with the earliest connection.
So to sum up the event it was really interesting to meet the international community, some of them actual contributors, and having great discussions about Icinga in all its aspects. If you have the chance come to a Camp near you, Icinga is doing its World tour! 😉
